Bad luck for Gas Gas in Barcelona’s Indoor Enduro
07/02/2011Cervantes could not get to the finals after one of
his tyres slipped off the rim and Lampkin suffered
from physical problems
Luck wasn’t on the side of Gas Gas in the visit of
the Enduro Indoor World Championship to
Barcelona. Two of the riders who were most likely
to be on the podium, Ivan Cervantes and Dougie
Lampkin, couldn’t finally shine in front of the
audience of the Palau Sant Jordi just as they had
done on previous years.
The first unfortunate incident of the night came
when Ivan could not get in the final round after
suffering a very unusual problem with his back
tyre in the morning classifying session. Despite
having set the fastest lap of his group, the rider
from Cambrils saw his back wheel get stucked in a
ditch and the tyre slip off the rim. After this
incident he couldn’t finish the race. This
circumstance made him try his luck again in the
afternoon’s repechage, where he felt down right
after the start and was forced to move up from the
last positions being able only to finish on the
threshold of the classification.
Dougie was a bit more lucky in the morning
session. He finished 2nd in the preliminary round
and thus he was automatically classifyed for the
finals. However he started to suffer an awful
migrane that increased in intensity as the day
went by. In spite of the intense headache the
British rider fought hard in the three races and
could finally finish 8th. Xavi Leon could also get in
the finals and finished 12th in the global result.
After the round in Vigo scheduled for February
26th has been cancelled, the last round of the
Enduro Indoor World Championship will take place
in Lisbon, on March 5th.
Dougie Lampkin
"This has been a very
difficult race. The practice and
the classifying sessions weren’t
too bad but early in the morning
my head started aching being
just the prelude of a terrible
migraine. I expected it to
diminish by the afternoon but
finally it didn’t and this made the
three races terrible.
The pain deprived me from
focusing on the race and at
some moments I even
experienced double vision. It is a
pity because this was my debut
with Gas Gas in the Enduro
Indoor World Championship but
within these circumstances it is
very hard to race properly. It’s
been tough but I’m positive that
things will improve a little bit in
Lisbon and I’ll be among the top
positions. The truth is that I feel
very comfortable with the bike
and very motivated so it is for
sure that good results are about
to come”.
