14/02/2011Dougie Lampkin, a shot at glory in the Hell's Gate
The british rider was the second highest ranked in
the most popular extreme enduro event in Italy.
The mountains of Ciocco in Tuscany (Italy), lived
this weekend the hardest edition of Hell's Gate
extreme enduro and Dougie Lampkin ran to a
single step to achieve a new victory in this classic
winter appointment.
The british rider started well in the first part of the
race, a classic enduro that qualified best for the
final extreme test, achieving second place overall.
Dougie was a little over 56 seconds behind the
winner, Graham Jarvis, and clearly ahead of
reputable enduro riders like Xavi Galindo, the rider
also Gas Gas Alessandro Botturi, Maurizio Gerini
and Andreas Lettenbichler.
Given the extreme race, which this year
significantly tightened its travel, Dougie started the
first section as leader and remained in this place
to be outdone by Jarvis, which was gradually
taking advantage of being the leader to mark the
time of reference.
The special rules of the Hell's Gate, which require
progressively eliminate the riders when they are
outstrip by the leader in far too long, and the
remarkable length of the rally, turned the extreme
in an elimination race. Jarvis was the only rider
that would end officially leaving Lampkin as the
second best driver in the overall.
Moreover, Alessandro Botturi, the main italian star
in Hell's Gate, was forced to withdrawn mid-race
after suffering an important fall.
