Puy already has four wins in Womens and Nambotin
maintains his regularity in E3. The hard ground and
the lack of traction was the worst enemy of Cervantes.
The Polisport GP of Portugal, the second round of the
2011 Enduro World Championship disputed this
weekend, was somewhat less favorable to the
interests of Gas Gas that a few days earlier in Spain,
although Christophe Nambotin and Lulu Puy were
again protagonists at E3 and EWomen, respectively.
Ivan Cervantes had trouble getting good registers on
the hard and dry ground of Vale da Cambra, with a few
tests less techniques than at the Spanish round but
more favorable to the 4-stroke engines. Given the need
for traction, fought to the limit both in the Cross as in
the Enduro Test, but lost so much time and it was
impossible to recover in the Extreme, where was
clearly competitive. So, Ivan had to settle for two fifthplace
that will provide for third in the provisional
classification after Antoine Meo E2 and 'Pela' Renet
awaiting more favorable races.
'Nambo' also accused the ground conditions, but
managed to sign two third places. The smallest
differences between the 2T and 4T bikes in E3 allowed
Christophe to fight for victory against David Knight and
Mika Ahola to the last special on Saturday, while
Sunday remained in this good line and confirmed his
second place in the provisional classification behind
Ahola. Jordi Figueras was eighth on Saturday and
nineth on Sunday.
Finally, Lulu still commanding the girls and got two big
wins against Laia Sanz and Blandine Dufrene. With
these results Puy is on the brink of revalidate his World
champion title when there are only two days of the
French Grand Prix to account in the final classification
of Enduro Women. In the Youth Cup 125 cc, Josep
Rallo was sixth on Saturday and five on Sunday.
The World Championship will return to the activity on
14 and 15 May in Francavilla di Sicilia, scene of the
Italian Grand Prix.
Christophe Nambotin
"The race was very different
from last week and has proved
more difficult to stay ahead.
However, adding two third
places in these conditions is
very positive and I'm happy. We
have seen that we are not far
from Ahola or Knight and we
can't say it was a bad weekend
considering that we left with 40
points and reinforcing the
second place overall. We need
to continue working this way
because if we are regular, the
victory will come, sure".
Iván Cervantes
"This has been a very difficult
weekend, because in no time I
found good feeling in this
ground. It was essential to have
good traction and the specials
were less techniques that in
Ponts, so that we couldn't exploit
our strengths. Without going any
further, the Cross Test ground
was so hard and it seemed a
packed track with gravel on top
and it was crazy to want to go
fast with a 250 2T. Still, I'm
happy, the championship has
just started and we must go
slowly and scoring points".
