The Italian GP saw an excellent performance of the
Gas Gas riders. Both achieved two podiums and
stand now second in their respective categories.
The extreme hardness, the intense heat and the
complicated legs of the Italian Grand Prix that took
place this weekend, turned out to be the perfect
allied of the two reference riders of the Gas Gas
Team. Christophe Nambotin and Ivan Cervantes
have shone spectacularly during the two-day
round in Francavilla di Sicilia. On one hand
'Nambo' achieved his first win this season in
Enduro 3, whereas on the other, Ivan had two
excellent podium finishes in Enduro 2.
In the middle class Cervantes turned into his own
and showed the outstanding tandem between him
and the EC 250, the only two stroke bike that
shines in E2. With his 3rd place on Saturday, right
after Johnny Aubert and Antoine Meo, Ivan clearly
overcame 'Pela' Renet and Cristobal Guerrero.
However the rider from Cambrils rised to the
challenge even more on Sunday when he finished
2nd after Meo and regained this same position in
the World Championship’s general standing.
On the 1st day it could be seen a delicious and
agressive riding by Nambotin in the top class.
Meanwhile Mika Ahola showed that he is not
invincible, since the Gas Gas rider left him 2nd in
the podium, with a gap of more than twelve
seconds between them. On Sunday 'Nambo'
suffered from the great effort made on the
previous day. In spite from that he rode out the
storm and finished 2nd after Ahola. Jordi Figueras
on his side added a 9th and 10th finish.
The EWC moves now to Fethiye, where on 10th
and 11th of June will take place the Turkish Grand
Prix, beeing the 4th round of this season.
Christophe Nambotin
"I’m very happy because we had
a great race a weekend that was
very hard and complicated.
Mika Ahola is always very fast
and makes no mistakes so it is
very difficult to follow and to
beat. Nevertheless, despite his
lack of mistakes this weekend
we could beat him. This is my
first win this year, but I’m
positive it won’t be the last…
that's for sure".
Iván Cervantes
"No doubts this has been a
great weekend. I’m happy, so
happy for the results. It has
been a very tough race and we
have proved very competitive
under such circumstances. We
came back to the podium and
we fought with the best in the
scratch times. I knew we would
improve after Portugal but this
exceeds our expectations. I’m
happy because everything
worked perfectly. The bike
worked wonderfully and step by
step we keep moving onwards".
