Nambotin was untreatable in E3. Mechanical
problems pursued Cervantes over the two days,
but took to the E2 podium on Sunday.
The Greek towns of Meteora and Kalampaka
welcomed this weekend the fifth round of the
Enduro World Championship, and apart from the
grueling heat and hardness, had an undeniable
star: Christophe Nambotin. The Gas Gas rider
was untreatable and while adding two big wins at
Enduro 3 was also the fastest at all during the two
days. Ivan Cervantes was the counterpoint of
'Nambo' which throughout the Grand Prix suffered
numerous mechanical problems that led him to
abandon on Saturday and just let him be third on
Sunday.
'Nambo' came to Greece ready to regain lost
ground after his abandon in the second day of
Turkey and the strategy came out perfect. From
the first moment came to set the pace and nobody
could follow him, winning with more than a minute
ahead of the second classified in E3, which was
Joakim Ljunggren on Saturday and Kurt Caselli on
Sunday. Mika Ahola, the overall leader, was third
the two days and saw Christophe cut distances.
Worse things were for Ivan, and on Saturday saw
than the engine problems led him to abandon and
lose their second place overall. On Sunday the
situation improved and could be on the podium
after Antoine Meo and Cristobal Guerrero, though
not without problems. First he had a problem with
the rear suspension and then with a retainer of the
engine, forcing him to be very conservative.
Cedric Melotte abandoned in E1 with physical
problems and Jordi Figueras was 9th in E3 on
both days. For his part, Josep Rallo suffered much
in Junior and could only finish the first day.
Christophe Nambotin
"Undoubtedly, I'm very happy.
It's my first double victory and it
is a way to get me the bad taste
of abandoning in Turkey.
Everything went great this
weekend, the bike worked
perfectly and I have found it very
comfortable so I have to
congratulate everyone. Seeing
how things are and that my
opponents can also fail, my goal
now is to win all the races as
possible and see what happens
with the other riders. There is
nothing decided and much
remains the end of the season".
Ivan Cervantes
"It was a shame not being able
to take better advantage of the
abandonment of Renet or
Aubert, but it was a tough race
for everyone and we have not
spared from suffering. The truth
is I didn't expect this
abandonment and I'm not sure
what is what has happened, but
from the beginning the bike
failed a lot. Fortunately we could
save Sunday and we still have
options to fight. To make
matters worse, I have sore one
knee, but I think it not will be
nothing seriously".
