A very strong Raga almost victorious at the Madrid X-Trial

05/03/2012
The Gas Gas rider consolidates his second place in the overall standings after fighting for victory until the very last zone.
Adam Raga was about to spring a surprise this weekend at the fourth round of the X-Trial World Championship. He managed to keep the mystery about who would take the win in the Sports Palace of Madrid to the last section of the race. Despite having to settle for second place on the podium, the Gas Gas rider had a masterful performance and he almost tasted victory. Thus consolidating second place in the standings after Toni Bou.

The Madrid round didn't start particularly well for Adam. After a couple of mistakes in the qualifying round, this prevented him from fighting for the last start in the semifinal. However, the difficulty of sections -fairly technical and long- was more dramatic for the rest of his rivals, except for Bou. This enabled him to face the decisive phase of the race with confidence. During the semifinals, Raga had only one rival and all the time resting very close to the championship leader, finishing just two points behind. Aggressive and decisive to the maximum, the Gas Gas rider continued aggressively in the three final sections, forcing Bou to take risks and almost making a couple of mistakes that left the victory nearly to Adam.

The race also allowed us to see a good performance of the young Gas Gas UK rider Michael Brown, who finished fifth. Moreover, the Frenchman Loris Gubian stayed out of the semifinals after a difficult qualifying round. The XTrial activity resumes again this Saturday in Palma de Mallorca.

Adam Raga

"I’m very happy with this second place, because it's those who almost taste victory. Obviously, I would rather win, but we've made things really difficult for Bou and we have fought at a level to dispute for the victory. We have been pushing hard and in these circumstances he almost made a couple of errors that had opened the race. The problem is when he fails, he en el segundo lugar de la knows how to recover. I think if we continue like this we can improve further and the aim is to keep pushing to finish and get some victories in the three races ahead, because this gives us plenty of motivation. In a few days we will try again in Palma de Mallorca".
