Laia Sanz wins on the first day of Andorra and Adam Raga touches the podium

25/06/2012
The Gas Gas rider wins the opening round of the Women’s World Championship and the intense struggle for Raga ends with his fourth place finish.
The town of Sant Julia de Loria has hosted this weekend's Trial Grand Prix of Andorra, the fifth round of the season for absolute categories and first World Championship for females. Laia Sanz's race began on Saturday with the question of whether the champion would suffer from the hard fall she suffered in the GP of Spain, although it soon became apparent that the Gas Gas rider was in a position to fight for the victory and to do also with the authority that characterizes her. Laia scored 3 points throughout the trial and followed by Emma Bristow who finished with 16 points and fellow Gas Gas rider Sandra Gomez took third place with 24 points.

Meanwhile, in senior Adam Raga began fighting one on one with Toni Bou, Takahisa Fujinami and Jeroni Fajardo. These four riders completed the first lap very close. Looking to the second round, Bou distanced himself and the fight between Fajardo, Fujinami and Raga left the Gas Gas rider on the score-board without a position of honor by only 3 points difference from 'Fuji'. Michael Brown shown a good performance and was seventh, while the young Matteo Grattarola, Pere Borrellas and Alexz Wigg occupied the ninth, tenth and eleventh positions respectively.

Finally in Junior, Jorge Casales again demonstrated his good form and fought for the victory with Alexandre Ferrer until the last moment. The Gas Gas rider finished the day with 7 penalty points, only 2 more than his Gallic rival and a 5-point advantage over third-placed Benoit Dagnicourt.

Laia Sanz

I’m very happy with the result. It is always important to start well and today we have succeeded. The truth is that everything went very well and I think we had a good race. Although the fall of last week was very cumbersome and I was not sure if I would have trouble, but actually I felt good and I wasn’t conditioned. I hope to continue in this line tomorrow and can score a second win”.
