The Italian Grand Prix Enduro World Cup ended with a bittersweet taste for Laia Sanz who took two victories in her category but finished injured the females race. The championship leader was hit with a rock in the penultimate stage when he had a wide lead over his main rival, Ludivine Puy. Despite the pain she caused two fractures in the right big toe the rider from Corbera de Llobregat managed to finish the race in first position and extended the lead to 12 points in the standings when it only remains a meeting to play.
On Sunday afternoon, Laia Sanz went under the knife for surgery for the foot injury. The multiple champion will have to expect now a month of recovery which has no race of the three championships currently being played: World Enduro World Trial and European Trial. The Gas Gas rider is leader of the three championships and next to Dakar, which won earlier this year, wants to end the season with the poker titles. The next meeting of Laia will be 18 and August 19 when, if fully recovered, played the Grand Prix of the Czech Republic, scoring for the European Trial.
