Presenting the new Gas Gas 450 EC-Raid for Dakar 2013

17/10/2012
Team Epsilon headquarters in Roca del Valles was the venue chosen to present what will be the Gas Gas team bike of the 2013 Dakar.
The EC-Raid brand has captured the attention of the audience in a ceremony attended by the three riders of the Catalan brand: Laia Sanz, Marc Guasch and Miguel Puertas. With seven Dakar finishes behind him, Miguel Puertas joins the Gas Gas team to assist Sanz and Guasch in the world's toughest offroad challenge.

Laia Sanz looks at this edition for her third consecutive victory in the female category this year and Marc Guasch can show his full potential to the handlebars of a bike that has been created not only for these elite riders but also for anyone who wants a raid adventure as is Dakar. The EC-Raid is most notable for its weight balance, giving it maneuverability and lightness in the varying characteristics of the South American terrain, and reliability is essential for a race of extreme endurance. The basis of this machine is the Gas Gas EC 450F enduro but with remarkable adaptations to cope with the Dakar rally. In this sense, they have added two lateral fuel tanks and one on the rear side, an unprecedented fairing, a navigation system, an exclusive exhaust system, an engine sump guard with a built-in water tank, uni-chassis, a reinforced head tube and a filter box located in the front of the seat for minimal dust accumulation during the stages.

Besides being a competitive bike for the official riders, the work of JVO Racing to develop the bike coordinated by the Technical Department of Gas Gas and assistance of the Epsilon Team with 25 years of experience behind them, completes a team that can bring the raid adventure to any amateur. That's why the EC-Raid will be available for 16,500 euros + VAT, which is a very competitive price for a bike that is a guarantee for the tests of rally raid.

LAIA SANZ, Gas Gas rider

"I have really wanted to try the bike. Now we have to be focused on the Enduro World Championship that is at stake this weekend in France, but when that is finished, I want to accumulate many hours on this bike. It looks good: it is small, compact and the riding position is like that of enduro. This year we have two months to prepare unlike last year and that will be a great advantage to go to Dakar having much more riding with the EC-Raid "

MARC GUASCH, Gas Gas rider

"We have done a great job in developing the bike to make it a competitive bike yet within the reach of any rider for riding, exploring, racing ... This year is another step forward for Gas Gas in the world of raids. This year the goal is to repeat Laia's victory and it would be great to take the three bikes to the goal of Santiago Chile."

MIGUEL PUERTAS, Gas Gas rider

"For me it's a dream because I have done many years as an amateur Dakar rider and for a brand like Gas Gas to ask me to ride on their official team and have the support of all of its people is amazing. The bike is fantastic! The aesthetic level is in line with the changes that Gas Gas has made in recent years. The riding position is very comfortable and the most interesting thing is that before it was a kit adapted to the Dakar, however this time they have definitely done a race bike that anyone can buy."

SANTI FARO , Gas Gas team manager

"We are thrilled to present the EC-Raid because this is a bike designed not just for our riders, who have the highest competitive aspirations, but we have made a bike for any "rider-customer" that has the passion for the world of Rally Raid and adventure. It's not about a motorcycle with an exorbitant price, but this is a very sound bike, designed and manufactured here with proper 'know how'. And within reach of many fans who want perfection and to be very competitive, as with the official team, but with a price adapted to reality, and in that sense I think we are pioneers."
