First pódium for Rodrig Thain with team Gas Gas in the Bassella Race

18/02/2013
This past weekend the Bassella Race has served as the preseason test for the newly structured Gas Gas competition team
On the left of the podium is the French Gas Gas rider, Rodrig Thain.

The highlight of rider Rodrig Thain was the Bassella Race. The newly signed Gas Gas rider that debuted on a high note last week in Barcelona Indoor SuperEnduro, has been quick to get on the podium and has done so twice. In the Xtreme Race yesterday, the Frenchman put the EC 300 R into the third position without risking too much, while the other side of the coin was Danny McCanney who had to leave due to a technical problem. McCanney who scored two wins at the Palau Sant Jordi, decided not to start in the Cross Country because it would be a risk if he were to fall, where the stakes the World Indoor Championships in junior category, in which he is a leader and with only one month left before the Enduro World Championship begins in Chile.

Despite never having ridden the traditional race in the Pyrenees and having a bad start, Thain had a comfortable third place finish. He could have snatched second place from Kvanstrom, but a fall in the second lap plagued him. Yet Thain feels increasingly comfortable with the Gas Gas and continues to improve with the bike he will ride in the Enduro 3 category.

In the "School of Champions" Young Gas Gas rider Esteban Lanz has been one of the revelations of the day with his eighth place finish on the EC 125 R, just behind Jose Luis Martinez. The latter has completed the first endurance test after choosing to switch from motocross to enduro with Gas Gas. The Terrassa rider focused on the tuning of the suspension. Meanwhile, Diego "Toro" Rojas was unable to finish after rupturing a radiator after an altercation with a tree branch while riding in the top ten. Included in the "Friends" category was the great victory of Gas Gas rider Xavier Castey and the third position of Thomas Cantons. The “Friends” category has became the most popular.

En categoría “Amigos”, cabe destacar la excelente victoria de Xavier Castey con una Gas Gas y la tercera posición de Tomás Cantons, en una categoría que ha vuelto a ser la más numerosa.

RODRIG THAIN

"It's a beautiful race and has helped us to continue getting the feel for the bike and improve some things. I am satisfied with the result we have obtained. We have a good line of work and this has been a good workout to get ready for Chile”

JOSE LUÍS MARTÍNEZ

"I'm very happy with the result and especially because I'm still learning. I come from motocross and in enduro I am missing hours of: trails, roads, ... But the feelings are getting better in technical areas and with the suspension settings we have put in the bike, it is going really well."

ESTEBAN LANZ

"It was a pass that put me in with the 'elite' riders, thanks to the work I did yesterday. The race was very hard and very long. On my first lap, I felt tired but the second I started to pass riders and that has given me strength. I am getting better physically and I think every time I am using more of the performance of the bike. The important thing is keep adding good results."
