A bad day for Danny McCanney in Greece

22/06/2013
The rider of the Gas Gas Factory Pons Team, Danny McCanney, finished sixth in the first day of the Enduro Grand Prix of Greece. The team is gaining experience.
"We have worked hard in recent weeks, before Romania and Greece",analyzed Sergi Duran, coordinator Gas Gas Factory Pons Team, the team's performance after the first day of the Enduro Grand Prix of Greece, "and while Danny McCanney has gained additional confidence in the bike, after working on the new Reiger suspension, again the terrain in which he has struggled to adapt seems to have set-back the previous progress". And certainly, the hard and stony ground of Kastoria, in which French and Italian riders are much more accustomed to, has prevented the brilliant young Gas Gas School of Champions rider from getting a better result in the Junior category.

However, his times were not bad, because in the Junior category there is fierce competition. With these same times in other classes, he would have been on the podium. Today, McCanney, for example, would have finished ahead of Ivan Cervantes, in E2, or ranked fifth in Enduro 3. For his part, the Chilean rider Diego Rojas, is on target, slowly finding the pace of this difficult category. Today he was eleventh. Meanwhile, the Israeli Bar Nov, in his second GP finished in twentieth place.
In Youth Class, Esteban Lanz is threading the needle, race after race, and if not for some falls, could have finished in the top five. Finally, he finished ninth. The Israeli Tomer Saphira was fourteenth.

In Enduro 2, Belgian Jean-François Goblet focused on the 4-stroke niche, but he could not make the 'top 10'. Sergi Duran, however, was pleased with the performance of the bikes:"we have six bikes in the World Cup and overall, this is mechanical durability testing. Now, rather than seeking racing results, we must also prepare for the next season",he says.

Danny McCanney:
This morning I started very slow, very cautious, perhaps too much so, and I lost a lot of time at first. Towards the end of the day I have been able to improve the time and that gives me confidence for the day tomorrow”.

Diego 'Toro' Rojas:

The riders are very fast and I had three errors that cost me many seconds; that was valuable time. Tomorrow, I go back for more. Luckily, I have left a mechanically impeccable bike for the last day in Greece”.

Esteban Lanz:
It was a hard day. The bike was fine and I was doing good times, but I failed a bit: a pity that I have fallen in some special stages. I hope that tomorrow I am able to achieve a similar time and enter the top five”.
