Gas Gas riders premier in the season opener of the Spanish National Enduro Championship

Riders of the Official Gas Gas Factory Pons Team participated this weekend in the first round of the Spanish Enduro Championship that has taken place in the Andalusian village of Antas.
The Enduro Championship of Spain opened with a doubleheader with the representation of the Spanish brand in all categories, which ended with encouraging results. While the riders have worked hard throughout the weekend, some incidents have deprived them of better final ranking. It was a difficult race for the Gas Gas Factory Pons Team, who have suffered some mechanical problems for some of the riders due to falls or impacts with some of the many stones that were in the course.

The terrain was extremely dry with heavy dust which added difficulty to the race, resulting in poor visibility, and complicated by the many hidden rocks in these typical lands of southern Spain, has adversely effected the riding for the participants in this first test of the National Championship.

One of the sections that had been ridden on Saturday had become an area with a great cloud of dust, with some points with sand whoops. On Sunday it was decided to cancel that part of the previous day's race and to disregard that portion of the timing statistics.

Arnau Solà decided at the last minute to participate in the National Enduro 1 category despite not being 100% healed from his treatment of the left wrist. The Catalan suffered Saturday but was able to finish. In contrast, on Sunday he has failed to finish as the water pump was broken by an impact with a rock and he had not enough time to repair it and get to the control point.

In Enduro 2, one of the most hotly contested categories, Marc Solà is adapting to the EC450F and was able to finish in fifth place despite several falls.

In Enduro 3 Gas Gas participation was provided by the Portuguese rider Diogo Ventura, at the controls of the EC300 and with a handicap, as his debut was at this event. After passing several riders even as the cloud of dust kicked up, his pace was more than acceptable and he finished in fifth position.

Meanwhile, the Chilean rider from the Gas Gas School of Champions, Esteban Lanz who participates in Junior 125 could not finish either day. On Saturday the bike was a victim of dust and Sunday he also suffered a blow with a stone in the rear part of the machine which resulted in damag to several components that could not be repaired in time.

The next competition for the team will be this coming weekend with the opening round of the World Enduro Championship to be held in the Lleida town of Solsona.

Arnau Solà –Enduro 1-
I have suffered a lot. Yesterday was fine, I started with the expectation to see what happened, enduring the pain, but I had good times. I fell in the Extreme test and from there I lost strength, but I finished. Today I broke the water pump and I could not get to the next time control.

Marc Solà –Enduro 2-
This category is hotly contested and I ended up quite satisfied despite suffering several falls on Saturday. Today I came out more motivated and my times were good. But in the second lap I lost everything I had earned in the other specials. Still, I'm quite satisfied and waiting for the debut of the World Championship in Solsona.

Diogo Ventura –Enduro 3-
This weekend has not been very good but it is good training for Solsona. Yesterday I fell behind because it was a very unusual championship event. I had to swallow a lot of dust and it was not easy to make good time. I still finished fifth in E3. I'm glad to be in this first race with the team and I am very grateful to the Gas Gas team for their confidence in me.

Esteban Lanz –Júnior-
Yesterday went well, but in the second round the course was very difficult and the bike suffered. Today went well, and I was there fighting to stay ahead in the 125 class, but I've had an impact and I damaged the back of the bike. Hopefully these problems and have ended with this race.
