The Gas Gas Factory Pons Team finalizes the World Enduro Championship in France

Fifth place overall for Diogo Ventura in the Junior World Championship and eighth place for Jonathan Barragán in E3. The Gas Gas Factory Pons Team finishes off the season of its return to maximum level international competition in Cahors, at the French GP.
Chapter eight, the final chapter of the 2016 Enduro World Championship finally ended at the French GP in Cahors. A hot weekend dominated by searing temperatures after which Jonathan Barragán and Diogo Ventura make their own conclusions after an irregular season for the return of the brand from Girona to the Enduro World Championship.

Jonathan Barragán starred in France with one of his most solid performances this year in the World Championship. The rider from Madrid, much more comfortable on dry terrain than in the other GP’s dominated by mud and rain, took advantage of his motocross abilities to ride into leading positions on both days in E3. This is one of the most competitive categories for times in the World Championship.

On Saturday, the Gas Gas rider started the first day of competition in seventh place, less than a minute from the winner of the largest engine capacity of the World Championship, demonstrating his competitiveness with the fastest riders of his category. However, the next day, on Sunday, Barragán repeated his seventh place after a day with a crucial fall in the first of the three laps. This was a small mishap where he lost just a few seconds but which finally cost him one of the top positions. Finally he finished seventh, only eleven seconds from third place. This result does not do justice to his excellent rhythm throughout the whole day. After these two seventh positions, Barragán finishes the E3 World Championship in eighth position.

Diogo Ventura, for his part, got to the last event of the year with a fifth position n the Junior Category and with high hopes of gaining positions on the table. However, his tenth position on Saturday and his thirteenth position on Sunday precluded any chance of the Portuguese Gas Gas rider getting his way. So in the end he finishes his last year in the Junior World Championship in fifth position, in the top five of the promising young riders.

Now that the World Championship is over, the Gas Gas Factory Pons Team riders have got their attention on two events. The Spanish Enduro Championship being held next week in Santiago de Compostela and in the Navarra Six Days of Enduro, taking place in our country from 11th to 16th October at the Navarra circuit where Gas Gas will be providing assistance.

Jonathan Barragán: “I quite enjoyed this race after a year of GPs with rain. I got near the podium, only 9 seconds away, although the result doesn’t reflect this. I finished seventh on both days which isn’t a bad result. The championship didn’t go as we had hoped. We started a bit weak at first and during the season so many races in the rain didn’t help us much. I would describe it as an average year. Next season we are continuing with Gas Gas and during the winter we will have time to improve, as we have a really tough winter of training programmed. We have huge confidence in the team, which is like a family for everybody, and I am sure that next year we will be much stronger.

Diogo Ventura: “I couldn’t do things the way I wanted this weekend. I finished fifth in the Championship and I would have liked to have moved up one or two positions in the final classification, but I didn’t get into my rhythm here. Everybody was going really fast. On Saturday I finished tenth, near the top five, but I wasn’t fast enough and a lot of French riders finished in front of me. Now we are looking forward to the ISDE, where I hope to get a good end to the season. We started off well with several podium finishes. This was my last year in Junior. After three years in this team I am very happy with everyone. There is a great working atmosphere which I am very thankful for.
